FROM THE PASTOR...
Greetings!

Hope you have all recovered from post-traumatic Super Bowl stress. If not, I completely understand. I still can't believe it's only been a few weeks since Super Bowl XLVI. It feels like just yesterday! Anyway…

Lent begins this week. A time commemorating the forty days Jesus walked in the desert being tempted by the devil. Jesus sought solitude in order to pray and fast. He did this right before He began His public ministry. The Church in Her Wisdom gives us this opportunity each year to contemplate our life with God. Lent lends us a time to grow deeper in our union with our Maker through prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and abstinence. I encourage you to enter into this Lenten season with an open heart and mind, to perhaps sacrifice some precious time to sit still before the Lord in the Eucharist here on Monday and Wednesday during Eucharistic adoration. I suggest to begin with just 15 minutes a week. Maybe come for Benediction at 9:00 pm on Wednesday evening or make a visit during your lunch break. Come on Fridays during Lent, we will pray the Stations of the Cross in Church. Afterwards, join us for a simple meal of soup and bread. Perhaps give of your time, talent or treasure to the parish as a sign of gratitude to God for all you have.

I have come up with a list of items to "give up" during Lent, just to give you some suggestions. In no particular order, here it is: chocolate, ice cream, beer, wine, desserts, cigars, pizza, Chinese food, potato chips, fatty foods, popsicles, brownies, pineapple upside-down cake, cans of nuts, fried foods, Boston cream pie, red Swedish fish, peanut brittle, ….oh, wait, I'm copying this list from notes I took at my doctor's visit…sorry. Okay, here's the Lenten list: chocolate, television, computer, sweets…etc.

I pray you have a blessed Lent. I pray we as a parish grow in the Spirit of Christ. I pray for you and your physical and spiritual health daily.

Peace,
Fr. David
