This November, the children in St. Joseph’s Faith Formation classes are putting faith into action. We have focused on two Works of Mercy. First, the Spiritual Work to Pray for the Dead and the second, the Corporal Work to Give Food to the Hungry.

Last Sunday, as a class, we read the book: All Hallow’s Eve by A. Destefano . It’s a children’s story that provides lessons on Purgatory, taking responsibility for our actions on earth, the need for atonement and that praying for the dead is an act of love and hope. We will all eventually make it to Heaven. After class and celebrating Mass, the children and their families visited the Riverside Cemetery. We prayed at the grave sites of family members, friends, parishioners, veterans, and children – people we knew and many others we did not. It was a beautiful afternoon filled with many faithful and loving moments.

Give Food to the Hungry

Through the weekend of November 28 & 29 , the children invite fellow parishioners and visitors to participate in our Corporal Work: theFaith Formation Food Drive: “Feed the Hungry”. They have placed posters and baskets at the door of the church to collect nonperishable and unexpired food items. All items will be donated to Lincoln Woodstock Food Pantry. Suggested items include: jars of peanut butter, jelly, cans of soup, tuna fish or chicken, and dry goods such as pasta, rice and cereal. Cash donations will also be accepted.

Thank you in advance for your generosity. Let’s make this Thanksgiving a time of great gratitude for the blessings we have received from God and a time of prayer and giving to our neighbor.
