Financial Health of our Parish

Dear Parishioners and   Visitors,

As the parish budget is  being prepared for the next fiscal year, it is with a  spirit of gratitude on this Pentecost Sunday that I notify you of our sound financial health. Yes, there are some major capital expenditures ahead of us, but, as you can see from the Statement of Financial Position, we are staying ahead of the game. In addition to the routine maintenance of the church buildings, the rectory porch has been reconstructed, the stained-glass windows cleaned and reinforced, the granite steps and railings repaired and realigned, the hydraulic leaks in the elevator fixed, and the residential-grade parking lot doors to the church have been replaced with secure and sturdy commercial-grade doors. The next project is to address the deteriorating frame and the warped and weather-worn front doors of the church edifice. We’ll get there!

I am ever thankful to the members of the Parish  Finance Council – Steven Babin, Margaret Sweeney, and Marty Nastasia – who offer their  expert guidance with respect to financial matters and the administration of the parish’s temporal goods. (And Mike Iarocci, Buildings & Grounds Chair, is always on hand to offer advice and help with construction and repairs.) Further, we are blessed by the continued generosity of our benefactors, the year-round parishioners, the ski crowd, the summer visitors, and the weekend tourists, all of whom contribute so faithfully to the needs of the parish and permit us to accomplish our pastoral and financial goals. Thank you and God bless you!

Finally, thank you for supporting those businesses that sponsor advertisements in our weekly bulletin. We sincerely appreciate our ongoing and regular sponsors, and welcome our newest sponsors:      Navarra’s Landscaping Services, The Mountain Club at Loon, and Granite State Glass.

With thanks and prayerful best wishes,
Fr. John Mahoney

National Teacher Appreciation Week

Dear Parishioners and  Visitors,

Many of the faithful in our pews dedicate their lives to the honorable work of education in public and private institutions, as well as leading students to Christ in faith formation classes.  One of my high-school teachers used to say, “God goes before me into  every classroom I enter. God is present in that room before, during, and after I teach.  I don’t have to do it all.”  If you stop and think about it, God  continues to work within these students long after you are no longer around. Thanks be to God!

Our faith formation teachers, Paula King and  Kathleen McDermott are dedicated teaching professionals who bring others to Christ and bring Christ to others. As Jesus’ disciples watched him ascending to heaven, he promised that the Holy Spirit would be with them always. We have faith, then, that the Spirit of God guides the hearts of all teachers who believe in His Word.

During this National Teacher Appreciation Week 2024, remember to say a word of gratitude to a teacher you know, or say a prayer for a teacher from your past who taught you something worthwhile about Christian living!

With prayerful best wishes,

Fr. John Mahoney

Fr John Medical Update

Dear Parishioners and  Visitors,

Thanks to so many who have inquired about the status of my medical  progress since suffering a heart attack some months ago.  My cardiologist has a few concerns about the slow response that medication has had on my “ejection fraction” rate and blood pressure, as well as the discovery of a blood clot in the left ventricle. So, the treatment plan is to alter the medication-assisted therapy, undergo another echocardiogram, cancel the anti-clotting drugs, and be hospitalized at CMC for a cardiac defibrillation implant. I am doing my best to schedule things to minimize any changes to the parish’s schedule of Masses and Adoration, but things may appear a bit different in church post-op, since I’ll not be able to raise my arms above shoulder height for a few weeks. Thanks for keeping me in your good thoughts, past and future.

With prayerful best wishes,

Fr. John Mahoney
